Maintaining The Fishing Gear
Every piece of equipment requires maintenance and fishing gear is no different. It needs to be given its due share of importance in order to make sure that it stays alright and can successfully help catch fishes. Just like all machinery, it is never right to go fishing, catch the fishes and then dump the rod in one corner. Sooner or later, it will become incompetent leading to unsuccessful ventures. Maintaining the fishing gear becomes even more important for those who own expensive sets. There can nothing be worse than investing thousands of dollars (a good set of rod and reels can cost up to $2,000) only to neglect the beautiful piece of instrument.
In order to make sure that the fishing gear remains in perfect condition, it is not only necessary to service it bit also store it under proper conditions. The maintenance does not take much effort or time and you would only need to devote a couple of minutes every time you go out fishing. For example, if the rod and reel get wet during a fishing expedition, it is very important to take rectification measures. When they get submerged into the water (lake, river, and stream etc.) a number of elements present in the water stick to the reel which can cause it to bind. On top of this, if the real is not sealed, the felts may get saturated causing them to expand. Ultimately, it may break which would compromise the proper functioning of the reel. Some tips to keep the gear in top notch condition are as follows:
a) Step 1: The fly line should be stripped down to the backing.

b) Step 2: Use the garden hose to hose off the reel and the rod.
c) Step 3: Reel back the fly line onto the spool again.
d) Step 4: Lubricate the reel with good lubricating oil (preferably the one recommended by the factory).
If in case the equipment does get submerged into the water, always try and keep the tip dry and away from the water. This is because this part is known to be the most sensitive compared to the rest. Also, it is fragile while means it can break of very easily. If the current is high, there is little chance that it will survive. The flies should then be rinsed with normal tap water and left for drying in the sun.
Following these steps would go a long way in increasing the average life time of the fishing gear. It stays in its original shape due to which its utility increases manifold. Other important tips to keep the gear in top condition can be found on the internet. Ask any fishing lover and he would be more than happy to help explain what exactly needs to be done. There are clubs in America that hold fishing contests across the year and winning is only possible if the participant has a skills and a well maintained fishing gear to assist him in his quest.
